Microtunneling success in Zürich!

Earlier this month, @Epping Gruppe successfully completed a 1,051 m long DN2400 microtunneling drive through the urban area of Zurich — an impressive feat of engineering and collaboration.

Key project facts & challenges:

‍

- Dimensions: ID 2400 / OD 3000 mm

‍

- Complex 3D alignment: multiple horizontal and vertical curves (radii up to R = 250 m)

‍

- Crossings: several streets, railway tracks and buildings

‍

- Ground conditions: highly variable throughout the alignment

‍

- Smart optimization: use of the Hydraulic Joint allowed for three different jacking pipe lengths to maximize performance

‍

- Digital integration: MSS equipped with the BIM Package for visualizing existing (underground) structures and exporting project data in .IFC format

‍
